hmm... listening to a newer recording of einstein on the beach and the organ tone is so much less... abrasive
seems a bit slower overal too
one of the things i liked about the original recording is how incredibly Obtrusive it is. sometimes i would listen to it when i was feeling really anxious just because it's so exhausting to listen to in places that i couldn't think about much of anything else. so it's interesting to listen to a version that feels a little more subdued.
wow, i never realized how unbelievable the lyrics to this perfume song are
"everything i can see and everything i can touch has no reality.
but surely i exist?
i kept running along this road, going forward and forward and even more forward.
i can't find the town that should be drawn on the map.
looking back, the scenery i was able to see there has vanished.
in this world i am the last of the last of the last.
Electro World,
the ground shook and broke apart,
the sun in the sky falls to my hand lightly."
watching a random 90s music video and wait wait whoa is that cibo matto???
yeah, apparently they have a random cameo in this music video!
it's not a bad song though imo. ferociously 90s.
haven't bothered you with 80s jpop in a while, have i?
here's nami shimada performing "shy cupid," one of my favorite 80s jpop idol songs.
with that said, hmu with your best punk recs please!!
uspol & religion (& punk) Show more
hmf i really want to cover o superman bc i've discovered i can sing it
there are so many song i want to cover. i think i like the idea of arranging music. i can't write it though, have never been able to do that
enjoying some kraftwerk on this fine day
note: this is not just a song about gay artists! i have a lot more of those. this is a just about songs that are openly undeniably gay.
also, it's skewed by my own musical preferences. if you have more, PLEASE share them :)
that is it for this thread. thanks for putting up with me
i saved my favorite share for last!
kitchens of distinction is a very obscure (imo underrated) british shoegaze band with an openly gay lead singer.
the first song is "prize."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HcY_z1VeUk
"the guilt was thin then, his hair long
brown to match his eyes
it's none of your business what his name was
would I even get a prize?"
the second song is "breathing fear" and it is a song about queerbashing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCiYRP3v588
"tell him why do you go to extremes
and how it must show"
up next is a gay ghost love story <3
found love in a graveyard- veronica falls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ucA0G5jZKQ
i'm so angry because i have a different version of this song that is much better recorded but it like doesn't exist on the internet.
"she was my ghost.
she is my unholy adventure."
ok! it's time for the smiths.
there are honestly several smiths songs i could go for here...
but the obvious one is "this charming man."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYYZFx7_DS8
such lovely jangly guitar in this song <3
and also such wonderfully over the top literary lyrics.
"why ponder life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?"
i'm also going to go for "i want the one i can't have" because it is also an incredibly gay song and also, unlike the last song which was cheery, depressing in the way smiths songs usually are...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42fzkIaHaW4
"on the day that your mentality catches up with your biology...."
up next! riot grrrl! in particular bikini kill.
tbh i do not know if anyone in bikini kill is queer but these songs definitely seem gay as hell so fuck it here they are
you may already know what song i'm about to drop on you first.
it's rebel girl!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0oeqAQ1qE8
"in her kiss, I TASTE THE REVOLUTION!!!"
up next is "for tammy rae"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piBQKllKQIQ
"hold on tight, i won't ever let you down.
it can't rain on our side of town."
okay next is my favez sleater kinney
i love this band, as many of you probably know
anyway, they have a song called One More Hour, and it is a breakup song written and sung by both of the parties of the breakup. it is painful as hell.
"oh, you've got the darkest eyes."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VoWc3yypHs
i feel kind of bad giving this breakup song as the only example from them, even though it is an amazing song. so also take this album track from the same album, called Buy Her Candy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_EAIp8l-Vs
"if i buy her candy, will she know who i am?"
ok so let's start off with a twofer:
homosapien by pete shelley!
yes, from the buzzcocks! he moved on to making new wave afterwards. and he made this song. this song that is so gay it was banned by the BBC. it was a big hit apparently! he identifies as bi by the way.
"i don't want to classify you like an animal in the zoo but it seems good to me to know that you're homosapien too."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HwmO_GZfzI
(also, this means every buzzcocks song can be headcanoned as gay if you feel like it. you're welcome.)
anyway, let's step forward some years. there's this awesome queercore band called pansy division (who i might post some more from). and they decided to do a cover of this song in the style of the buzzcocks. and it's so great! tbh i think i've listened to this version of the song more than the original.
ok but tbh this was inspired by my queer coworker talking about how she was really excited about finding an LGBTQ pride playlist and then it was all, like, Lady Gaga
which, uh, nothing against lady gaga but..... yeaaaaah.
so i decided i was going to post some incredibly gay stuff tonight. music by gay people about bein' gay. so get ready.
HI EVERYONE
IT'S NOW HALFWAY THROUGH PRIDE MONTH
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS
IT'S TIME FOR SOME GAY SHIT
WAHOO
"today," i thought, "i'm gonna just open up my music library and put it on shuffle and the first song i've actually listened to i'll post."
so here's what you got.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpbFi3QpVSE
molly (sixteen candles)- sponge
(cw: suicide for the lyrics)
"i wish i loved you."
I AM SO GLAD WE HAVE THIS EMOJO
