I have wanted to own Ben Sidran's 24 CD box set, "Talking Jazz", ever since I learned of its existence. It's Ben, himself a phenomenal jazz musician, having conversations with 60 other jazz musicians over a five year stretch for his NPR show, "Sidran on Record". Miles. Chick. Dizzy. Herbie. Wynton. and 55 more!
However, it, and its requisite 24 CD price tag, was not ever something that fit into my budget when I had access to purchase it.
Now, friends, it is mine, because it is on Bandcamp:
ahhh yes, it is once again Sunday morning in Sundogistan and that means #jazz
I awoke this morning with a long list of to-dos and enough chaos to make me feel slightly frazzled, so I'm in the need of some stability and soothing. that brought to mind one name from the jazz world who never fails to smooth out the wrinkles, and that name is Bill Evans.
so, if some smooth jazz interpretations could ease your Sunday hesitations, feel free to follow along over on @nowplaying or streaming all day on https://radio.reclaim.technology/stream

it's been a hectic week around these parts for yours truly, so I could use some good grounding and a solid foundation, and no one in the jazz world fits the bill quite so comprehensively as Ron Carter, so we'll be spending our day with him today.

The look Paulson and LaMarche give each other at the end of the "Pinky and the Brain" cover is everything. <3 <3 <3

this week, we'll be going in a slightly different direction than usual as my mind's ear wants to hear those classic jazz tropes we know and love so well, but maybe applied to some songs that don't usually get the respect that the more standard standards receive, mainly due to the original recordings not being classified as jazz hardly ever. luckily we have access to the ultimate technology for exploring this space: the Postmodern Jukebox.
so, if some newish songs being done all wrong is something that might make your day turn out right, feel free to follow along over on @nowplaying or streaming all day long at https://radio.reclaim.technology/stream
@djsundog get you one of those digital picture frames and hang it on the wall of the lab
Julian Lennon's 1990 album "Help Yourself" is up next in its entirety on SPR and it is @derek 's fault.
I made a playlist of scattered Blue Nile miscellanea and wrote a bit about it https://blog.derekgodin.com/elsewhere-blue-nile-marginalia

this week's going to be a grab bag of artists and sounds that my ear is clamoring for, starting with the piano stylings of a young jazz pianist that caught the eye of Quincy Jones a number of years ago, Emily Bear.
so if some grooves based on my mood sounds like your ear's preferred food, feel free to follow along over on @nowplaying or streaming all day on https://radio.reclaim.technology/stream

this week is a rerun as I got fewer than four hours of sleep last night, so enjoy some jazz that makes me think of summer.
