The score for the THX “Deep Note” sound, made public for the first time after 35 years:
@acb I thought they generated it randomly and couldn't recreate it after?
@gargron @acb yup! http://earslap.com/article/recreating-the-thx-deep-note.html specifically this quote: "The code Dr. Moorer wrote has generative characteristics (i.e. it relies on random number generators), so each time you generate a score and feed the resulting statements to the ASP, the generated sound is somewhat different."
@acb i'd always dive behind the coffee table when this'd play at the start of movies when i was rlly young
I at least flinched and mostly made a sound along the lines of "GAH!!"
@acb The most important post on all Mastodon
@acb I really want to compare recordings of a symphony orchestra and a drum corps playing this
@acb I wanna take this to an orchestra rehearsal so bad
@acb now watch as I play it on my uke
@acb i thought the THX deep note was a computer program written in C...
@acb THIS IS SO COOL
@acb I love this!
@acb it starts out with 30 voices, but i count 28 at the end (3*6 treble + 2*5 bass). what happened to the remaining two?
@acb I can't believe my ear-eyes
